I am Julie, and I have loved crafting and making things for as long as I can remember. It was very much a hobby though, as at school I was encouraged to follow a more ‘academic’ line, studying computer science to degree level.
Over the years however I have taken many opportunities to combine both computing and crafting skills and it is that combination that in recent years has led first myself and then my husband to become deeply involved in working with a fair trade company in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Work relating to this took a lot of our time and crafting was neglected. I guess the number of cards I made for many years could be counted on the fingers of one hand.
But then things changed – God called us to live in Mongolia and although we came initially to work with a local radio station we have now begun our own business and opened a craft shop here – the first of its kind in the country. It is a challenge, a scary one at times, but also lots of fun introducing what is ‘normal’ to most craft people in the UK to people who haven’t seen it before. We hope and pray that before long it will become a much loved pastime here and many will gain enjoyment from it.
